A Post About Shows That I Like
I am thoroughly enjoying my overpriced cable TV, and since not much has happened since Tuesday, I thought I would share some of my favorite shows with you.
1.) The 70's House, Tuesday nights at 10:30 (my time) on MTV
This show takes 12 18-25ish strangers who are "hip" in 2005 and force them to live in a house that is decorated completely with 1970's decor. When they signed up for the (I guess un-named) show, they thought they would be living in a Real World style pad, and the look of utter confusion on their faces when they walked through the door was priceless. They had to give up all technology from 2005 and if they say things like "awesome" (that's 80's) or "botox" they can be up for elimination. They have to wear 70's clothes, ride around in 70's cars, eat 70's food, and say 70's phrases.
Each week they have to perform a ridiculous 70's type activity, in public (in 2005!), while dressed in 70's clothes and hair. The two people who do the worst will be up for elimination, especially if the haven't watched their talk. So far the most entertaining activity was during the second episode, where the gang got to learn disco dancing from Deney Terrio (the choreographer for Saturday Night Fever) and EVERYONE had to wear tights and leotards. My favorite outfit was a super wide and low cut v-necked leotard that some poor boy was forced to wear. After the two groups (boys vs. girls) had each choreographed a dance routine, they were off to a dance contest at a club. They were all pretty excited about shaking their booties and some were even disco dancing as they walked into the club. That was awesome, because the club turned out to be a crunk/ hip-hop/ break dancing club, and the disco dancers would be competing with that type of dancing. Needless to say, both teams lost. It's a highly entertaining show, and even if you missed the first 4 episodes, since it's on MTV they play it like every other hour, so it'll be easy to catch up on.
2.) Almost any show on Home and Garden Televison (HGTV). It's like 24 hours of Trading Spaces, which after watching real designers on HGTV, really isn't good. I especially like Divine Design, Design Remix, Design on a Dime when Kristan Cunningham is the designer, and Designed to Sell. Like MTV, HGTV runs these shows all the time!
3.) Finally, even though these shows aren't on cable, I absolutely ADORE PBS's series of documentaries with honestly and aptly titled shows such as; A Program About Unusual Buildings, A Hot Dog Program, and my all time favorite; Sandwiches That You Will Like. During these programs a narrator, Rick Sebak, travels the United States and visits attractions known for whatever the program is about. He also interviews people eating said items, or working at said attractions for some colorful local, ahem, flavor. He also makes great puns like I just did. In the hot dog show, we got to see how hot dogs were made and what went into them. Much to my surprise nary a boot, raccoon, or pigeon head could be found! What they are actually made of was MUCH less disgusting then what the meat (bull, I know you were dying to know) is encased in. I think I always kind of knew, but if I ever find the magical grocery store where skinless hot dogs are sold (supposedly they make them), that's the only kind I'm ever eating! I have eaten one hot dog since the program and Jon and I are eating bratwurst for dinner, but I'm sure bratwurst is skinless, right? :) These programs don't run nearly often enough because I don't think there are that many of them, but if you ever happen to run across one, they are very cute and entertaining. One more bonus, at the beginning of each show, Rick further endears himself to me by apologizing in advance if he doesn't make it to my favorite place. Only on PBS and in Canada are people so nice.
Have a great rest of the weekend! More pictures will be coming soon!
P.S. sheep intestine (I know it was driving you crazy)
